Refender 1.0 - 26/10/2014

Refender is a remake of the classic 80s arcade game, Defender.

Refender will run on all versions of Windows from XP onwards and requires a GPU capable of OpenGL 2.0.
The game has been designed to run in a cabinet environment in either 16:9 or 4:3, but is configurable for regular PC use.

The remake was designed with cabinet play in mind, although it is perfectly playable directly on your PC using Keyboard or the controller of your choice.

Before you run the game for the first time, you will need to configure the game controls and other settings by running the "launcher.exe" program. Once you have configured keys and settings, you can run the game from the launcher, or directly by running "refender.exe".

Configuring controls and other settings
---------------------------------------

Run the launcher.

On the configuration page, the following settings are available:

Cabinet mode: Set this if the game should be run in cabinet mode. This includes the need for "credits" (see controls)
Use Player 1 Start: If selected, a specific key should be assigned to "start" (usually for cabinet mode). Otherwise the key assigned to "fire" will act as a start button.
All Pause Ingame: As stated in the configuration, use of pause will be sent to world highscores
Number of Title Loops: Designed for cabinet mode, how many times the highscore list sequence loops before the whole attract sequence loops.
Reset Local Highscores: Exactly that. The persisted "local" scores are reset to stock.
World Highscores Active: If enabled, the game will work with the world highscore server. When the game starts, the latest world scores and distances are retrieved and the game will show the world highscores in the attract sequence.
When a world highscore is acheived, the scores are also refreshed from the world server.
Check Release: Make sure you have the latest version.

Controls Tab:

A representation of the original defender control layout is displayed.

Click each control and press the associated key for that control.
Note that the credit key is located between the coin slots at the bottom of the screen.

Playing the Game
----------------

There are a number of enhancements to the original gameplay, which will be fun to find out as you play if you ever played the original game.
The game will end after 256 levels. This is a departure from the original game, but encourages you to achieve maximum bonuses where possible. Good luck in finding all of the games secrets!!
